Follow the shore of Lake Vänern

Cycle along the shore of Lake Vänern to the world's tallest Picasso sculpture!

You start at Kristinehamns Gästhamn and Ställplats and from here you cycle the nice bike path out towards the archipelago and the Picasso sculpture, one of the best stretches of the Väner Trail. Here are several chances to look at the Väner horizon, swim, enjoy a bustling boat life, soak up the archipelago atmosphere or cozy up with ice cream or other yummy things from one of the restaurants or cafes.

Along the bike path out to the archipelago, you can try several activities such as canoeing, kayaking and mini golf.

Picasso sculpture

When you arrive at the world's tallest monumental sculpture by Pablo Picasso, you should take the opportunity to park your bike and walk to both viewpoints where you get a completely different impression of the sculpture. You can see the sculpture from the sea and from the land looking towards the horizon.

In summer, there is an info point at the sculpture, selling souvenirs.

Jacqueline's nature trail

Get off your bike for a while and stretch your legs by taking the Jacqueline Nature Trail. It's a 2.5 km long walking trail that starts near the Picasso sculpture and is a pleasant hike with several nice viewpoints.

Jutviken

After the Picasso sculpture, you cycle a few hundred meters through an area of newly built villas and holiday homes located near Lake Vänern. Take the opportunity to take a dip at Fyrparken or at the lookout point at the southern cape. You will now arrive at Jutviken, which you should round by continuing to follow the red Vänerled signs along Jutviksvägen until you reach Magasinsvägen. There you turn right and continue to follow Vänerleden, which now runs on cozy gravel roads south through fine pine forest on the way to Värnanäs and Kungens rastplats.

Jutvikens bathing place

To get to many Kristinehamnare's favorite bathing place, make a short detour from the round loop, and turn right about 250 meters south of the intersection between Jutviksvägen and Magasinsvägen. Then you follow a small forest road down to Jutvikens bathing area with a large and nice sandy beach and open view of Lake Vänern.

Vänervyer views

On the way south you pass two beautiful viewpoints: Värnanäs and Kungens Rastplats. At Värnanäs there is a dog bath and at Kungens Rastplats there is a barbecue area, windbreak and a nice beach.

At the far south of the entire route you reach the intersection of Possebergsvägen and Visnums-Kilsvägen. From here you cycle north on Visnums-kilsvägen through agricultural landscapes.

Järsbergsstenen

At Järsberg you cycle onto a parallel road to Riksväg 26. Feel free to stop and admire Värmland's oldest rune stone, which has an inscription from the 5th century.

Karaby Farm

After Järsberg, drive over Riksväg 26 towards Karaby Gård (Drive carefully - the road lacks pedestrian and bicycle crossings). In Karaby you will find locally produced sustainable products from the farm, food crafts from the area, summer café and rural accommodation.

Drevsta

Continue past the farm and drive under the railroad. Turn left and follow the road until you reach Riksväg 26 again (opposite Beijer/STC) into Drevsta. Drive over 26 (carefully) and follow Vegavägen through the area and turn right on Hantverkargatan which becomes Gustavsbergsgatan. Here in the area is Café Drevsta for those who want a coffee stop. When Gustavsbergsgatan crosses Södra ring road, turn right.

Kristinehamns Hembygdsgård

Cycle up to Ica Maxi and then take the cycle path on Östra Ringvägen until you see Hembygdsgården on the right. Here it is wonderful to rest your legs, play boules and have a coffee or enjoy a light lunch. You can also wander around the area and be seduced by the sound of the stream and the red charm of the old wooden houses.

Towards the city center

Pedal along the rural Bjurtjärnsgatan, onto Östra Ringvägen until the crosswalk where you turn left onto Prästgatan. Before the railway on the right side, cycle past the Wallnerska villa, which was Sweden's most clicked house at the sale in 2020. Cycle further over the railway, then pedal the cycle path along the railway and over the bridge. Turn onto Fabriksgatan, cross Norra Staketgatan and turn onto Trädgårdsgatan where the houses and the park give you the feeling of having entered the 19th century. Cycle across Norra Torget, further into Västerlånggatan, over the bridge. You are now in Kristinehamn's city center if you want to take a leg stretch, fill your stomach with something

(tip page 8) otherwise you pedal Västerlånggatan over the bridge along the beautiful yellow

wooden house Wahlundsgården and into Hovslagaregatan. Here you will find Retrovågen (2) which

offers a lovely mix of locally produced deli and retro. Just before the bridge on the same

street you'll find Lev Vackert (3), a famous and unique interior design shop in the city's oldest

with over 140,000 followers on Instagram @lev-vackert. Cycle over the Stadsparkens bridge which

which won an award in a European competition. Continue straight through the park under Västra Ringvägen and you are back in Gästhamnen.
