Harfjället, Naturreservat
- Nature reserve
- County: Värmlands län
Actions
Description
The Harfjället nature reserve, with its natural forest character and open mires, offers a wilderness feeling where visitors can roam freely and experience untouched nature without prepared trails or facilities.
Harfjället is a reserve that contains pine-dominated and fire-affected coniferous forests with very high natural values. Centuries-old pines stretch over perhaps equally old but suppressed and late-growing spruces. The abundance of hanging lichens is striking in large parts of the area.
In addition, there are extensive bogs with high natural values, the most striking of which is the abundance of wolf lichen on often fire-affected dry rocks out on the bogs. Harfjället's bogs are home to one of Värmland's largest populations of wolf lichen, perhaps even the largest.
Within the reserve there are also areas that are affected by forestry and also areas with contorta pine.
A large number of red-listed species and signal species have been found in the area.
Before your visit
There are no facilities in the reserve, but you are welcome to explore the area on your own.
