Description

Along a narrow and bumpy gravel road you slowly roll into Tjäderleksmossens nature reserve. There are several paths through forest that is partly old and partly younger. Large moss-covered boulders and fallen trees lie all around you.

Tjäderleksmossen itself is actually quite small. It is located near the northern parking lot, follow the path and signs towards the tar valley a bit. As you approach, you'll be greeted by the scent of water hemlock. In March, when the birch has mouse ears, a spectacle begins in the old-growth forest. On the pine moss on a very early spring morning, you may be lucky enough to witness the strange and somewhat comical mating dance of the capercaillie, which is full of fun. Other birds you may see in the reserve include cranes, bitterns and three-toed woodpeckers.

The reserve also tells a cultural story. Here and there you can see older traces of cows grazing in the forest. Old coal bunkers bear witness to the charcoal used to supply the blast furnaces at Länna Mill.

The terrain is rocky and bumpy in many places. It takes time to get around the reserve, especially in the eastern part when you walk the 1.5 km long trail past Kansasdalen. From the northern parking lot, the trail goes up towards a rest and overnight cabin at Skärsjön. As you approach the lake, you walk through leafy forest and over rocky areas.
