Description
Starting at the swimming pool in Österbybruk, you can embark on a 14 km hike around the most important water reservoir for the mill - Stordammen.
The dam was built by royal order in the early 1600s. With the damming, Österbysjön and Dynsjön became a large dam, about 5 km long and 1 km wide.
Around the dam, embankments were built to hold back the water. The trail now runs on these dikes and dams. You walk here just like the workers who have maintained the dam for several hundred years.
The trail runs along the edge of the dam, through woods and across vast marshlands, mostly along easy paths. South of the dam, you also walk a couple of kilometers on a forest road. Hundreds of meters of boardwalk keep your feet dry and the moorland protected from wear and tear.
Five kilometers of the loop you walk on Upplandsleden between Österbybruk and Gimo (orange marking). The remaining 9 km are newly constructed (2024) and have blue markings.
There are several nice places for a break: Two barbecue areas in Aspbo nature reserve and one at Knabohälla. At the latter there is also a shelter and a jetty for boats and canoes.

En trevlig led med jättefina spänger.. fint gjort 👍 o kul att kunna gå runt hela sjön Skulle dock gärna se att blåmarkeringarna även finns på UL's oranga markeringar hela vägen runt då det är lätt att välja fel led nära österbybruk slingan o elljusspåret..därav 4☆
Hej Ulla! Vad roligt att du gillar vandringsleden runt Stordammen. Föreningen som anlagt och sköter leden ska nu ha markerat även sträckan som går längs Upplandsleden med blå färg, med hopp om att det ska förtydliga var slingan går. /Emelie
Knabohälla med vindskyddet och dass är dessutom en väldigt vacker plats.
Just nu finns tyvärr ingen riktigt torr ved, men den fungerar att använda om du har med dig lite torr ved att grunda med. God Tur 🌿
