The nature reserve is located in the middle of Norra Björkfjärden, which is one of the largest and most visited bays in Lake Mälaren. Within the reserve there are many attractive islands with sun-exposed and rounded rocky beaches and some fine sandy beaches that are well visited in summer. The islands are largely easy to walk and varied.

**Nature in the reserve

On the islands you can experience the rich and varied nature that is typical of Mälaren's islands, ranging from old groves with hazel and deciduous trees, to more natural mixed forests, as well as former meadows and pastures with old, magnificent deciduous trees and pines.

The islands within the reserve have a high species richness and the presence of many demanding, disadvantaged and threatened species. Many of these species are linked to old deciduous mixed forests with old deciduous trees and dead hardwood, old sun-exposed pines and oaks. Bird life is very rich and ospreys and cormorants are often seen hunting for prey.

**Discover the area by boat

There are good anchoring facilities in several places. In order not to disturb the seabirds during nesting, you must not enter Lilla Notskär and Kalvskär or stay closer than 100 meters from these islands between 15/4 - 15 /8. On the other islands you are welcome all year round, but you should also remember to show consideration for both animals and plants.
