Description
The coast in Norduppland is often rocky, but on the Hållnäs peninsula there are several good places where you can get out to smooth cliffs overlooking the open sea.
In Hållnässkusten nature reserve there are two nice places to visit, Örnstenen and Rödhäll. A long gravel road leads you to the parking lot at Örnstenen. From there you can follow the 1 km long path through real old-growth forest where orchids and other unusual plants line your path. From the rock outcrop Örnstenen you get a beautiful view of the sea, which is open as far as the eye can see. The path then leads past smooth bathing cliffs, beach meadows and sea buckthorn thickets.
The landscape here is flat. This, combined with the high rate of land uplift, 6-7 mm/year, means that new areas of land rise out of the sea relatively quickly. The coast here is a typical land uplift coast, with shallow bays in various stages of separation from the sea. The shallow and warm lakes that form when the bays are cut off are home to the common frog. If you come here in late May or early June, you may be lucky enough to hear it. The göl frog is unique, in the whole of Sweden it is only found here on the Uppland coast.
Rödhäll is like a corner of the North Uppland coast with beautiful cliffs and wide views. You get here after a 500 m walk along a forest road from the parking lot in the northern part of the reserve. Along the way there are plenty of wild strawberries and insects. At Rödhäll there is an open rest and overnight cabin.
The terrain in the area is sometimes rocky (and mosquito rich). In spring and fall, the area can be recommended for those who want to watch birds.

Ett riktigt fint naturreservat som även är lättgånget. Vackert nu i slutet på maj med en massa blommande orkidéer på de kalkrika strandängarna. Såg även havsörn!
