Häcksören

Häcksören is the last headland before the waters of the Dalälven flow into Gävle Bay and the Bothnian Sea.

Häcksören is perhaps best known as an area for outdoor life. The reserve is criss-crossed by several different paths and is used extensively throughout the year as a hiking area. The proximity to the sea and the river also creates good conditions for fishing and birdwatching. In summer, Häcksören is an obvious and very popular destination for sea bathing, barbecues and hiking.

Häcksören has natural forest-like coniferous and mixed forests with abundant dead wood. There are also moist and nutrient-rich floodplain deciduous forests and open sandy environments, as well as the so-called estuary at the mouth of the river. An estuary is a body of water where fresh and brackish water are mixed, which means that both fresh and saltwater fish can be found.
