Here at Österby udd there is a campsite that can be used as a tent site. At the campsite there are tent areas, dry toilet, fireplace and windbreak. Firewood is available on site, but you need to bring your own drinking water.

As of spring 2025, camping is allowed in accordance with the right of public access in almost the entire Härjarö nature reserve, but:

  • You are not allowed to camp in the bathing area, i.e. the mown grass areas, at Blåhäll and Äppelnäsgrund.
  • You are also not allowed to camp in the former camping area.
  • You are not allowed to camp on arable land.

**Larger groups are referred to the campsite here at Östery backe.

**Very large groups, more than 20 people, please contact us in advance at: info@upplandsstiftelsen.se.

For the very large groups, we charge a fee for extra firewood and toilet management. It is not possible to book to have the campsite at Österby backe for yourself. However, if very large groups contact us, we can ensure that there are not two such groups there at the same time.

Skyddad lägerplats i fin skogsglänta. Ett rejält, rymligt vindskydd och gott om ved. Vi fick en mysig kväll och övernattning här!

The campsite is located about 300 meters from the parking area, deeper in the forest. We spent one night there. It’s a beautiful spot, although many trees are infested with pests and have been cut down. There wasn’t much firewood, but plenty of fallen branches were scattered around, so it wasn’t a big issue. An axe might be useful! Unfortunately, the water pump wasn’t working, and according to the information provided, the water isn’t drinkable anyway—so be sure to bring your own. The toilet was clean, well-maintained, and odor-free. There’s no trash bin, so remember to take all your rubbish back with you!
