Description

Take a bike ride along the western side of Fyrisån to the bird tower at Övre Föret. Sit down at the coffee table on the first floor or climb up to the second floor and look for teals and snipe in the reeds. From the third floor you get a nice view of Fyrisån and its surroundings. On the other side of the river, fields and meadows with grazing animals spread out.

At Övre föret, Fyrisån swells into a small lake. Many birds rest and nest here, mostly ducks and waders. You may see lapwing, wigeon and teal, but also shoveler, kingfisher and corncrake. If you're lucky, the lovely marsh harrier will fly by in search of small rodents and frogs. During the winter, Övre Föret is usually free of ice and is an important refuge for seabirds.

Information signs with pictures and names of the most common birds are located on the different floors.

Accessibility There is a parking lot with space for four cars next to the bird tower. The ground floor is adapted for wheelchairs. There is also a coffee table. A graveled walkway leads to the tower. There is no toilet.

There is a parking lot at Vindbrovägen, just south of the bird tower. Beyond this there is no parking lot so the best way to get to the bird tower is by bike. However, it is possible to park along Vindbrovägen.

By car: From Dag Hammarskjölds väg, turn east along Ulltunaallén. Turn left on Kronåsvägen and then immediately right after the dam. Then keep left. You are now on Vindbrovägen. After about 1 km, the bird tower is on the right.

By bike: Along Fyrisån, past the bird tower at Övre Föret, there is a graveled walking and cycling path. It starts at Stadsträdgården in Uppsala and ends at Sunnersta. It is 2.5 km from Stadsträdgården to the bird tower.
