**High water level
At the moment, a lot of water is being released in the part of the Dalälven where Bredforsen is located. The flows vary, but expect that it is not possible to cross at the ford over to Gässön and that it can be very wet at times.

Felling on Gässön
In September 2025, the Uppland Foundation will harvest planted spruce on Gässön in the Bredforsen nature reserve. This nature conservation effort is done to favor mixed forest, old trees, woody species and open up for grazing animals.

For those who visit the area and walk the path out on Gässön, it can be difficult to access during the felling. For a short distance, the road where the timber is driven out will run in or close to the path and in some stretches it may become rutted and muddy. If ruts are formed in the ground, these will be restored after felling.

Description

The blue trail in Bredforsen is 5.5 km long. It starts at Knutsvall in the eastern part of the reserve and goes out to Fäbodstugan on the southern part of Gässön.

The experience of hiking this trail is different depending on what time of year you are here. You need to be prepared that at certain times of the year (mainly spring and fall) it can be very wet at times. Therefore we recommend boots or waterproof boots. The wettest part is a short section right at the beginning, and where you walk across a meadow north of Harbyvallen (just south of the county border with Gävleborg).

At the passage over to Gröttyllsholmarna there is a ford. The water level varies throughout the year, but rubber boots are usually enough to get across dry-shod. Feel free to use a walking stick as it is rocky at the bottom.

The hike goes through pastures with cows. You walk across meadows and through forests where great efforts have been made to remove spruce to open up and let in more light to all the deciduous trees that grow in the area. At Harbyvallen there are the remains of an old pasture, which was abandoned around 1850.

On the southern part of Gässön you will come to the fäbodstugan, a small, old cabin that has been renovated and now serves as a rest and overnight cabin. Here you can rest and spend the night if you wish. Down by the water, a bit away from the cabin, there is a jetty where it is possible to dock with boat and kayak.
