Ånge

Ånge is a gem on Vattholmaåsen between Storvreta and Vattholma. The area has pastures, farmland and forest. The Fyrisån river flows past the ridge. The pastures have been farmed for a long time and are poor in nutrients. Many plants and insects thrive on these lands, such as the wood anemone, sundew, aurora butterfly and silvery warbler.

Parts of the area are a Natura 2000 site, which means that it is protected within the EU as a particularly valuable natural area. The many ancient remains show that people have lived in the area for a long time. There are burial grounds from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. You can see some of these if you follow the road to the view at Vargkulbackarna, 500 m from the parking lot.

From the parking lot you can also follow an accessible footpath to Ånge bird lake, 400 m.

The wetland has been created to get more water surfaces in the landscape. Insects, amphibians and birds thrive here.

The wetland has been created in collaboration between the landowner and the Uppland Foundation and financed with funds from the Rural Development Program and the Uppland Foundation.

Grazing animals look after the vegetation along the edge of the lake. Avoid going out on the embankment around the lake in spring and early summer when the birds have eggs and chicks.

Ånge is one of Uppsala County's nature hotspots. Nature hotspots are areas with high natural and outdoor values that are accessible to visitors.
