Description

The sixth stage of the Roslagsleden trail is one of the longest and offers wilderness-oriented forests and hiking in open fields with elements of cultural history.

The stage starts in the idyllic Wira bruk where you will find the old courthouse, the forge, the blacksmith shop and the charming outbuildings in this historically well-preserved mill environment.

The hike continues in varied nature along gravel roads and paths in hilly forests.

At Kvarngården, in Bergshamra, there is a rest area with a shelter from the wind, a fireplace, a toilet/toilet and opportunities to fill up on drinking water. Feel free to visit the museum, the café with art exhibitions that are open for a few weeks in the summer. The well-preserved mill environment and miller's residence date from the 18th century. But as early as the 16th century, the swedish king Gustav Vasa initiated the construction of a mill on the site. It is said that Näcken plays in the Kvarnforsen rapids.

In Gamla Bergshamra there are several historically interesting houses and at Gunnsjön there is a swimming area.

In Bergshamra village, a 2 kilometer detour from the trail, there is a grocery store and pizzeria. A little outside the village is Morabadet, a sea bath with a sandy beach.

The hike continues in the outskirts of Penningby Castle through the nature reserve Grevinnans Rå. At the intersection of four villages there is a rest house with a toilet that is open and free to stay overnight. There is a fireplace next to it, bring your own wood and make sure you have water to put out the fire as there is no watercourse nearby.

The last part of the hike from Grovsta runs along road 276 for a few kilometers to Penningby and the castle where the stage ends. Penningby Castle was built in the late 15th century, then as a fortress castle during the Middle Ages. It is said that the White Lady haunts the castle. There are several ancient remains in the area and at the Penningby crossroads there is a runestone that testifies that the place was already inhabited in the Viking Age. In Penningby there is also Linneladan - a café with a charming interior design and gift shop.

Regulations

The trail is marked by a band of orange painted on the trees. Occasionally signposts also guide the way and give distances. You´ll find an information board at the start and end of every section.

As a hiker, you have a responsibility to be considerate and helpful to others who share the trail with you and to find out about local regulations that apply where you want to hike.

When you are in the countryside along the Roslagsleden trail, the Right of Public Access applies, which means both obligations and rights for you as a hiker.

Take your trash home with you.

Preferably use the designated toilets and restrooms along the trail. If you need to relieve yourself in nature, move away from the trail and rest areas and choose a spot far from watercourses. Dig a hole, relieve yourself, cover the hole. Bring toilet paper and wipes home in a plastic bag.

Remember to only light fires in official fireplaces. Do not start a fire if there is a fire ban. Here you can find out if there is a fire ban or in the app Brandrisk ute.

Respect that you are walking on someone else's land and that there may be rational agriculture and forestry along the trail.

Along the coast and in some lakes and rivers along the Roslagsleden trail, fishing is permitted if you have a fishing license. You can buy a fishing license online.

The Roslagsleden trail passes several nature reserves with protected nature where special rules apply. You can read more at Naturvårdsverket (The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency) and Länsstyrelsen (County Administrative Board).

On the sixth stage of Roslagsleden, you are hiking through Grevinnans rå nature reserve with special regulations.

Inte tog det fyra timmar... snarare sex timmar.

Det tog oss 5 h, fina stigar, kuperat. Bästa/finaste rastställena är hembygdsgårdens trädgård i underskog och grevinnans rå.
