Storsjön

North of Lake Storsjön, near Lindholmens gård, lies Vasakullen, which takes its name from the castle that stood on the hill until the end of the 18th century. At the time of Gustav Vasa's birth, the castle was owned by the future king's closest relatives. There is therefore speculation that Gustav Vasa was born here, in the castle on Vasakullen. The oak-covered hill is beautifully situated between Lake Storsjön and Lake Lillsjön, so it's not hard to see why it's a natural location for a grand building. Feel free to take a walk through the avenue to Lindholmen Manor past sheep pastures and deciduous woodlands.

South of Lake Storsjön, the five-kilometer Veda nature trail stretches through a varied forest landscape where many birds thrive by the lake. The forest has undergone extensive restoration to create a more varied forest landscape and thus increase the diversity of the forest. The nature trail passes through a pillared hall with large pines, an area dominated by birch, a swamp forest that is regularly flooded, an oak slope and a pasture. Educational information signs describe the nature conservation measures that have been taken and the animals and plants that may benefit from each measure. You can learn which birds thrive in the wetlands around the lake, and that an oak tree grows for 300 years, matures for 300 years and ages for 300 years.
