Description

SOLLENTUNA CHURCH

Sollentuna kyka with defense tower began to be built by the sailing route and the bridle path towards Uppsala around the year 1180 but was greatly changed in the 17th century. A large Swedish-made altar cabinet from 1475 sits on the north wall. The painting "The Wheel of Life" by Albertus Pictor in the porch. Parish house "St. Larsgården"

In 1912, the distance from Stockholm's stadium to Sollentuna church was two miles and one kilometer. At least for those who participated in the Olympic Games marathon. Behind the church today stands the turning stone that marks that the runners then ran half the distance. The route was just as long for Gustav Vasa's funeral procession, which on December 17, 1560, came from Riddarholm Church to spend the night in Sollentuna Church on its way to Uppsala Cathedral. Then as now, the funeral procession and other church visitors are met in the porch by Albertus Pictor's painting "The Wheel of Life". The painting reminds us that man's quest for power and happiness still ends in death.
