Beavers thrive in the area and their dams sometimes cause flooding that makes it difficult for hikers on the Roslagsleden trail. A few kilometers north of Wira bruk it can be difficult to cross dry shodd where Lake Trehörningen/Mörtviken has its outlet. Work is underway to develop a possible rerouting of the trail in that area.
Description
This stage of the Roslagsleden offers a lake-rich forest landscape that ends in the historic Wira bruk where service, culture and history are woven together. You hike in beautiful nature with elements of wilderness on beautifully hilly paths and forest roads.
The hike goes through Trehörningsskogen nature reserve where there is a rest area with a shelter and a fireplace next to Oppsjön, a few kilometers from the start at Domaruddens outdoor area.
Enjoy the rich animal and plant life during your hike and feel free to take a bath from the cliffs at lake Holmsjön.
A few kilometers before Wira bruk, on the shore of lak Viren, there is a shelter with a fireplace. Here you can swim also swim in the lake. There is also room for some tents.
The stage ends in the unique cultural environment Wira bruk. Picturesque today, but at the time the foremost arms forge that supplied 17th-century great power Sweden with swords, sabres and bayonets. In more peaceful times, scythes, axes and skates were made. Today, there is a preserved mill environment here, including forges, a museum, a restaurant and a blacksmith shop. The new generation of blacksmiths has carried on the blacksmithing tradition and you can find their products in the shop. You can also book a guided tour of the mill at the blacksmith shop. Every summer, Wira-spelen, a traditional outdoor theater, are held on Isac's meadow by the mill.
Also near Wira bruk are Roslags-Kulla Church and Östanå Castle, beautiful cultural environments that have their own stories to tell.
