Description
Östanå is the oldest manor in the parish, mentioned in writing as early as the 15th century. The old Carolinian manor house was burned down by Russian soldiers on August 17, 1719. The dragoons who were supposed to defend the manor fled and let the superior Russian troops loose. To this day, place names such as Ryssviken and Ryssmasterna recall the archipelago war.
The castle was rebuilt in neoclassical style and completed in 1794. Östanå was built as a stately manor with a Baroque garden that extends in terraces down to Saltsjön. To the west of the garden is an overgrown castle park with beautiful beech trees that are unusual this far north.
The river Loån flows past the edge of the park where the common tern spends the winter. It is less common to see kingfishers or rosefinches, but it does happen.

Jättefin bokskog, tyvärr hittade vi ingen stig att gå in i skogen. Slottet kändes väldigt övergivet, vi gick till vattnet och fika
