Knallboda

Knallboda croft was moved here from Kungsängen at the end of the 1850s. Not far from the croft is a collection of really big pines from the 1770s. Some of these giants have a circumference of 2.5 meters and are 30 meters high. Normally, these pines would have been felled a long time ago, but thanks to a huntsman, the forest was saved. In his farewell letter to Sollentuna Häradsallmänning in 1936, he wrote 'I take the liberty of saying a silent prayer for the old-growth forest'.

The pines have been able to grow so large here because the soil is rich in nutrients. Unusual fungi that live together with the pine trees have been able to develop in the soil, such as the rough tick that grows on the roots of the pines.
