Description

Kästa burial ground is located in a pasture belonging to Lövsta farm. At the top there are two mounds, one of which is filled with stones and the other with earth. Flatter burial mounds/stonework follow the crest. Large boulders along the eastern side of the ridge may be an ancient marking of the burial area. In the northern part there is a flat surface that may have been the site of a building, perhaps even a harg, that is, some kind of temple. This hill was surrounded by wetlands during the Iron Age and into later times. The landscape was more open with fewer trees in the immediate vicinity. This is why the graves on the top were visible from far away.

The area has been used as natural haymaking and grazing land (natural pasture) since the Bronze Age and has retained natural meadow and pasture plants since that time, such as sedge, maidenhair, spring grass and sheep's fescue.
