Gävsjöskogen is affected by spruce bark beetles and several trees have fallen or are at risk of falling across the path. Vallentuna Municipality is working on clearing the path. The path is passable but hiking is at your own risk in the area.

It is recommended to follow the temporary detour instead, which is safer and more beautiful to hike.

Description

The second stage of the Roslagsleden trail begins in gently rolling terrain and continues on well-trodden paths in fine rocky areas. Mushroom-rich forests are peppered with remains from the First World War.

The stage begins next to Karby gård, Täby cultural center, and continues on easy hiking trails to Gullsjön where it is nice to take a break near the shelter and fireplace. In the forests around Gullsjön there are forts and gun emplacements along the Korvlinjen, a defense line that was established during the first half of the 20th century.

The trail then takes you up over Täby's highest natural point, Löttingekullen 58 meters above sea level, where there is also a Bronze Age cairn. Together with a larger burial field from the Iron Age nearby, the cairn shows that Löttinge farm is one of the oldest farms in Täby.

From Löttinge farm, the Roslagsleden trail goes through the forests around Skogberga, where a detour to Skavlöten's outdoor farm offers a sauna and lake swimming. The hike then continues through the rocky slopes of Gävsjön, a relatively untouched forest area. In Skogberga there is also a shelter with a fireplace.

At Stora Ladängen there is a barbecue area and the opportunity to camp with your tent in the meadows. It is possible to rent the entire house from Vallentuna Municipality if you want to spend the night indoors.

The trail then continues through the forest and to the farms around Angarn and the Angarnssjöängen nature reserve.

At the end of the stage in Örsta next to the Angarnssjöängen nature reserve there are several ancient remains, such as rune stones, and a rune slab carved by the rune master Öpir.

Angarnssjöängen is the county's most important bird lake, with around a hundred species breeding at the lake and in the surrounding area. There is a birdwatching tower next to the lake meadow if you continue on the third stage of Roslagsleden. In the nature reserve there is also the opportunity to camp with your tent or rest by the shelter with a fireplace.

The trail is marked by a band of orange painted on the trees. Occasionally signposts also guide the way and give distances. You´ll find an information board at the start and end of every stage.

As a hiker, you have a responsibility to be considerate and helpful to others who share the trail with you and to find out about local regulations that apply where you want to hike.

When you are in the countryside along the Roslagsleden trail, the Right of Public Access applies, which means both obligations and rights for you as a hiker.

Take your trash home with you.

Preferably use the designated toilets and restrooms along the trail. If you need to relieve yourself in nature, move away from the trail and rest areas and choose a spot far from watercourses. Dig a hole, relieve yourself, cover the hole. Bring toilet paper and wipes home in a plastic bag.

Remember to only light fires in official fireplaces. Do not start a fire if there is a fire ban. Here you can find out if there is a fire ban or in the app Brandrisk ute.

Respect that you are walking on someone else's land and that there may be rational agriculture and forestry along the trail.

Along the coast and in some lakes and rivers along the Roslagsleden trail, fishing is permitted if you have a fishing license. You can buy a fishing license online.

The Roslagsleden trail passes several nature reserves with protected nature where special rules apply. You can read more at Naturvårdsverket (The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency) and Länsstyrelsen (County Administrative Board).
