This nature reserve has scattered infestations of spruce bark beetles. There are many dead standing spruces in the forest and along paths. The spruces may fall suddenly and without warning. Watch out and avoid visiting the nature reserve when it is windy.
Description
The Gullunge nature reserve is full of rare fungi, mosses, lichens and insects that are specially adapted to the limestone soils and old conifers found here. Dead wood in various stages of decomposition provides habitat and food for many endangered species. The presence of specific plants, like bird's-nest orchid and wood sanicle, indicates that Gullunge is a relatively undisturbed forest. The rare three-toed woodpecker has also been observed here.
There is a 2 km hiking trail in Gullunge, perfect for mushroom and berry picking. A small detour from the path leads to the remnants of an ancient fort.

En mycket vacker trollskog. Flera trevliga ställen där man kan sitta på en bänk och fika. Gott om bär och svamp. Ett besök i denna skog är som balsam för själen.
Två p-platser finns vid Naturreservatsskylten. Entrén är lätt att missa när man kommer med bilen. Är du vid parkeringen så ligger entrén en liten bit tillbaka, det hänger ett litet vindspel med små änglar i en grankvist där. Med GPS gick jag in vid skylten och följde en igenväxt väg, den tog slut en bra bit in i skogen. Gick vidare med rak kurs in över bergshällar och korsade tillslut den orange markerade leden. promenaden tog ca 2 timmar totalt. Mycket vackert, finns en hel det omkullblåsta granar och andra lutande träd, var lite vaksam är ett råd om det blåser när du är där. Relativt gott om svamp, blåbär o lingon lite mindre av, men trevligt att pausa o ta sig några bär.
