Description

The Eldgarnsöleden trail is a clearly marked 6 km walking path around the island. Follow the orange markers.

Along the hike, you’ll experience oak pastures, forests of ash and elm, open farmland, coniferous woodland, and coastal meadows. In some areas, you may notice that old grazing lands are being restored. Shrubs and spruce trees are being cleared to make room for large deciduous trees and grazing areas for animals. It may look a bit untidy for a while, but many plant and animal species benefit from these efforts—and in time, it becomes truly beautiful.

Along the Eldgarnsö Trail, you’ll find several lovely picnic areas. Some also have fire pits (see map). Please bring firewood if you plan to grill.

Suggestions for alternative destinations

Have you tried Adelsöleden on Adelsö? A really nice trail that takes you to the Adelsö-Sättra nature reserve.

When was the last time you were in Väsby hage? One of our finest reserves with large oaks and a wonderful hay meadow.

Or take the ferry from Ekerö to Slagsta: In Korpbergets biotope protection area you have a mile-wide view of Vårbyfjärden and the adjacent Vårbergstoppen probably has the county's toughest bird tower.
