Description
Muskö is a typical Södertörn island, mostly covered in coniferous forest, with many steep mountains and dramatic cliffs. Just southeast of Muskö church is one of Haninge municipality's recreational areas. It is scenic land with plenty of mushrooms and a large number of hazel and other deciduous trees. On Grytholmen, a peninsula that juts out into Fårfjärden, is Grytholmen's open-air museum, which is run by Muskö Hembygdsförening. The Grytholmen farm rests beautifully on a meadow slope overlooking a protected bay. The farm buildings have been supplemented with houses moved here from other parts of the island. The natural environment on Grytholmen is exciting, with accumulations of huge boulders that have formed small caves. In Fårfjärden outside Grytholmen, large numbers of seabirds usually gather during the fall and winter.
