Muskö: Arbottna

One of Muskö's most scenic areas is Arbottna on the southern part of the island. The open, grazed meadows around the 200-year-old manor house are easy to walk through and accessible. The Maren wetland below the manor house is home to black-necked grebes and several species of ducks. From the bushes and thickets you can hear the song of the rosefinch and the nightingale, and in the spring nights, barn owls and sometimes great horned owls call. Strawberry clover grows on the coastal meadows towards Fårfjärden, and lungwort, wild violet, wild balsam and horsetail grow in the groves and forest edges. Various species of swifts and other unusual butterflies swarm over the yellow meadows and bluebells. The varied area is rich in many different species of bats. There are also beautiful mushroom fields. Arbottna's nature is so special that parts of the area are classified as a Natura 2000 site.
