Description

Experience the lush forest at Hållet

Hållet stretches between Nyköping Hospital, the E4 highway and the west side of the Nyköping River, just north of the Åsidan medical center. The forest types in Hållet form a mosaic, which is a result of soil conditions and previous management. The most valuable from a biological point of view is the spruce-hazel forest on the slope down towards Nyköpingsån. The area is classified as a natural forest because of the coarse spruce, hazel and large amounts of dead wood. The high humidity and abundance of fallen trees contribute to a rich moss and fungal flora.

In the western part of Hållet, behind the fire station, is the bog. There you can walk on footpaths over the wet ground and enjoy the fine water mirror. Old and large pine trees dominate here. Hazel and other deciduous trees such as oak, sweet cherry, birch and willow often grow under the pine.

In the Hållet area you can find mines from the 19th century. Walk along the mining path and read the signs, feel the wings of history and discover a part of Nyköping's cultural heritage!

Look for spring flowers in Marieberg

Marieberg stretches out on the east side of Nyköpingsån. In the lush hazel forest along the river promenade, where there used to be grazing animals, you are surrounded by beautiful flowers in the spring. Here you can find wild garlic, bluebells, white crowfoot, cabbage thistle and woodruff. At the Paradiset barbecue area, a meadow opens up where there are plenty of midsummer flowers and hop flowers.

The grove-like environment and the rich supply of dead wood are of great importance for many different species. The larger deciduous trees provide nesting opportunities for cavity-nesting birds and wintering sites for bats. The river is home to a large number of dragonflies, including the beautiful, shimmering blue damselflies. Here and there are aspens felled by beavers, which have increased in the area in recent years.

Stop at Grandelius mountain park in Stenbro

Behind Stenbrogården, north of the E4 highway, is a primeval mountain with steep sides covered with moss and rocky outcrops. The area is home to Grandelius Bergspark, which consists of several paths with stone steps that lead the visitor up to the view at the top of the mountain.

Below grows deciduous forest with oak, maple, ash, beech and lime. The flora consists of a mixture of wild plants and wild and surviving park and garden plants, which originate from the time when Stenbrogården was a vicarage: trees such as sycamore maple, silver maple and mountain pine; shrubs such as hedge cress, honeysuckle and privet; herbs such as Spanish chervil, cowslip, park mulberry and wintergreen.
