Description

On the edge of the Helge å river lies the Vattenriket nature center. Like a nest in the reeds, it rises above the wetlands, just a stone's throw from the train station. Inside, you'll find exhibitions, a café and exciting activities. Admission is free. See opening hours and current program on naturum Vattenriket's websitea.

A wooden bridge takes you over the river and up to the nature center. The reeds and willows rustle and chirp. In summer, islands of goldenrod and torch flowers glow next to the bridge. Inside the entrance, a fantastic view awaits, enhanced by ribs in an open fan. The view of the lake filters in between the bars of the facade and the pillars of the room. It feels like stepping into a reed bed overlooking the water.

Protected by the reeds, you can look out for birdlife. In early spring, lapwings court each other, a heron takes off from the water and geese look for a nest in the reeds. If you're really lucky, you might see a kingfisher gliding by, or an otter hunting for fish.

Take a ride with Opteryx

The exhibition tells the story of the diverse nature of the Aquatic Kingdom and the people who live here. In the aquarium you can see perch, blackfish and cormorants. On the adjacent screen you can see other fish that thrive in the area. Another part shows the many birds of the Water Kingdom.

The quiet corner is rarely empty. There is room to read and cozy up. Animals from the Water Kingdom's streams live in Forsakarsbäcken. A houseworm crawls along with the house around its body and a mare darts quickly past on the side.

In the middle of the exhibition is the phenomenal vessel Opteryx. Join us on an imaginary trip above and below the surface. You will have a unique experience, full of surprises and wonderful nature!

Find out in Vattenriket

Naturum is the biosphere reserve's visitor center, shop window and guide to Vattenriket. In the exhibition you can learn how the biosphere reserve works and get a taste of all the great things that await here. Nature guides will help you discover the 22 visitor sites in the Water Kingdom with information, trails and bird towers.

Utemuseum Årummet Just outside the nature center begins the trail that leads Utemuseum Årummet. A walk through reeds and willows gives a wonderful wilderness feeling and you get close to the plants and animals of the wetlands. Once in the hiding place, you can look out towards the bird life of the naturum lake.

Varied and exciting program

In the naturum's program, birds, fish and in between coexist in a wide range of activities all year round. Traditional excursions are interspersed with walking safaris, qigong, outdoor concerts and imaginative family activities. You can find the program on the website.

Restaurant

Upstairs you can buy food and coffee with a local and organic focus according to the season. There is also a roof terrace with a lovely view of the city center, the beach meadows and Helge å where you can eat your packed lunch at the wooden tables.
