Description

Kronoskogen is a municipal nature reserve in Tomelilla municipality. The reserve is adjacent to the Tosselilla amusement park and the Svampabanan racetrack, a few kilometers outside Tomelilla. Kronoskogen consists mainly of young forest, with great recreational opportunities.

Young, planted forest

Kronoskogen consists mainly of young, planted forest with an average age of around 50 years, but there are also some older trees that are about 100 years old. Spruce is still the most common tree species, but will eventually be replaced by deciduous trees. Significant parts of the forest already consist of deciduous forest and larch trees.

Natural pasture with orchids

The reserve contains a small area of natural pasture with an interesting flora. Here you will find, among other things, cornflower and cowslip as well as the orchids St. Peter's keys and May keys. There is also a small pond in Kronoskogen, and in the north the reserve borders Trydeån. Leaf frog and great crested newt have been observed in the pond.

The bats' hunting grounds

Kronoskogen is relatively rich in bat species. Seven different species, including the common pipistrelle and the rare barbastelle, have been recorded in the reserve. The barbastelle uses Kronoskogen mainly in the spring for foraging, and it is likely that the individuals observed have their nests in the nearby Fyledalen reserve. In addition to bats, mammals such as red deer, wild boar and roe deer also occur in the reserve.

Outdoor life

There are good opportunities for outdoor life and recreation in Kronoskogen. There are three exercise/hiking trails, two of which are illuminated and one is accessible. There is an outdoor gym in the reserve. A bridle path also runs through the area. Along the trails there are rest areas with barbecue facilities and there are also toilets. Remember to take your rubbish home. Don't miss the rune stone along the red trail. There is a parking lot nearby and the nearest bus stop is Svampakorset.
