Description

In Klöva Hallar you are greeted by an impressive landscape. The steep rift valley is surrounded by high plateaus and at the bottom of the valley runs Klövabäcken, surrounded by lush deciduous forest. The Skåneleden trail runs through large parts of the reserve and there are beautifully situated barbecue areas and shelters to rest in. The cliffs below the Soffabacke view are popular with climbers during fall and winter. During spring and summer, however, there is a trespassing ban here!

Klövadalen is formed

150-200 million years ago, Söderåsen skyrockets when two continental plates collide. Around 100 million years later, another collision occurs and now winding cracks open up in the ridge - Klövadalen is formed. Frost heaves, ice ages, weather and wind have since then shaped the cliffs and stone pillars found here.

From open landscape to forest

It may be hard to imagine standing in today's high-stem forest, but just 150 years ago the landscape here was almost completely open. The forest was heavily exploited in the 19th century, for grazing, firewood and timber. In the stream valley and on the plateaus there were fields and hay meadows, but in the ravines, the trees and their inhabitants have found a refuge over the years.

The forest takes over

In the 20th century, the forest began to reclaim the land - spruce was planted and pastures and meadows grew back. In today's reserve, spruce will gradually be replaced by deciduous trees. The goal is a deciduous forest where both age and tree species vary, and where old and dead trees are allowed to remain to the delight of species such as the coral sponge and the unusual beetle, the red-eyed fritillary.

Klövabäcken stream

Klövabäcken flows through the entire nature reserve in its natural meandering channel. The clean, oxygen-rich water is home to many small insects such as caddisfly and water snail larvae, and both minnows and trout spawn here. Keep an eye out for the common starling, which skillfully dives for food in the flowing water, winter and summer.

Outdoor life

Klöva Hallar is a sister valley to Skäralid's rift valley in Söderåsen National Park Link to another website. Here too there are magnificent views and mighty cliffs and precipices, but the valley floor is unpaved and thus more wild and untouched. The Skåneleden trail crosses the valley floor in the far north. Then the trail continues up the northern side of the valley, from the old dance floor Klöva Hallar in the north and past Klöva mölla in the south; it is a distance of just under 5 km. There is also a new yellow-marked circular trail.

There are two shelters, one in Krika forest and one down in the rift valley. It is only in these two places that it is allowed to make a fire. Remember to bring charcoal if you are going to grill. However, there are picnic areas with tables and benches in several places in the area. Thank you for taking your rubbish home. Parking is available at Krika forest and right next to the old dance hall Klöva hallar. Both of these access points are located along the northern side of the valley. There is also a small parking lot on the opposite side of the valley at the Soffabacken viewpoint. The rocks below the Soffabacke view are popular with climbers during fall and winter. During March to July there is a ban on entering!

North of the Soffabacken parking lot there are several streams with waterfalls. The largest waterfall is in the stream closest to the parking lot. The waterfall can be seen from Skåneleden across the valley.

In English

Welcome to Klöva hallar Nature Reserve

An impressive landscape awaits you at Klöva Hallar. The steep fault valley is surrounded by high plateaus. The Klövabäcken stream runs its natural winding course along the bottom of the valley, surrounded by lush broadleaved woodland. The Skåneleden Trail goes through large parts of the reserve and there are barbequing areas and shelters in beautiful locations, where you can take cover.

150-200 million years ago, the Söderåsen ridge shot up when two continental plates collided. Around 100 million years later, there was another collision. Meandering cracks opened up in the ridge and the Klövadalen valley was created. The Klövabäcken stream has bubbled along in the bottom of the valley since time immemorial. Many insects such as caddisfly and stonefly larvae thrive in the clean, oxygen rich waters of the stream. Common minnow and brown trout also breed here. Keep an eye out for white-throated dippers which expertly dive down for food in the flowing waters.

It is difficult to imagine when you stand in the tall woodland today, that only 150 years ago the landscape here was almost completely open. The woodland was exploited in the 1800s for grazing, firewood and timber. In the valley and on the plateaus, there were fields and hay meadows, whereas on the scree slopes, the trees and their inhabitants were left in peace. Rare species such as coral tooth fungus and the click beetle Denticollis rubens can be found here.
