Description

Klingstorpabäcken with its clean water meanders through forest and open land in an undulating landscape outside Färingtofta in Klippan municipality. On its way to the Rönne River, it passes both swamp forests and flower-rich pastures. The Klingstorpabäcken stream is home to trout and the now rare river pearl mussel. Both species need running water with shady trees and good bottoms. Several small gravel roads and paths run through the reserve. But the terrain along the streams is often difficult to access.

Geology and water

The watercourses in the Klingstorpabäcken nature reserve consist of a main stream Klingstorpabäcken - Guvarp and a tributary Klingstorpabäcken - Karup. There are some valuable ice river deposits in and around the stream. The stream or river meanders in a natural way. Sometimes it divides into several parallel channels (swales) that soon meet and merge into a single river channel again. In some stretches, the water flows among boulders, stones and gravel. In other parts it flows calmly and quietly.

The pearl mussel needs the trout

Trout thrive in stretches of river with relatively high water velocity, lots of boulders and good shading. Thanks to this, the trout, but also the exclusive river pearl mussel, can live on here. For a certain period of their lives, the larvae of the pearl mussel need the trout for their survival. Apart from Klingstorpabäcken, the river pearl mussel is only found in a few weak populations in Skåne. Outside the reserve area, individual specimens of the critically endangered crayfish and eel have also been found. Other fish in the watercourse include burbot, minnow, brook lamprey, perch and pike.

Plants in and around the water

In the swell areas where the river channel divides into several small parallel streams, there is a rich vegetation with, for example, water lily, axslinga, cabble lichen, leech bud and water mint. In the surrounding pastures and water meadows, almond blossom, small-leaved waterwort and buttercup grow.

Outdoor life

Several small gravel roads and paths pass through the various areas included in the nature reserve, but along the streams the terrain is difficult to access in places. Remember to take your rubbish home.

In English

Welcome to Klingstorpabäcken Nature Reserve

Klingstorpabäcken meanders through forests and open landscapes and passes both swamp forests and flower-rich pastures on the way. Trout and the unusual and protected freshwater pearl mussel live in the stream. Both species thrive in the flowing water with shady trees and bottoms with rocks and gravel. Other fish found in the stream are burbot, minnow, brook lamprey, perch and pike.

The freshwater pearl mussel needs trout for its survival. The larvae use the trout as a host. It attaches to the gills for 9 months until it releases and drops to the bottom of the stream. With a little luck it ends up in a favorable place with a gravelly bottom where it digs itself down. Here it lives on filtering nutrients from the water.

The stream consists of one main stream and a tributary. Sometimes it divides into several parallel furrows, so-called bifurcation. There is a rich vegetation in these areas. Part of the forest next to the stream is regularly flooded at high tide. The inflow of water supplement the

forest with nutrients which benefits the biological diversity.
