Description

City Park

The city park is beautifully situated by the waters of Motala Bay. In spring and summer, the flower beds are filled with thousands of bulbs and summer flowers. In the upper part of the park, rhododendrons and Japanese cherries bloom in early summer.

Motala City Park got a new fountain in 2023. The bottom of the fountain is the mosaic artwork "Circles" by Nada Tendzeric. The artwork honors Motala as an important meeting place. Circles of different sizes in the fountain symbolize human gathering spaces for creativity and the colors reflect the surrounding trees, buildings, sky and water. They intertwine and create dynamics. The water jets start in a ring and radiate inwards. They are illuminated with different colors that change in a play of light.

For the children there is a large playground, "Children's Lake Town" with a consistent water and Lake Vättern theme. The park underwent a complete renovation in 2015 and is an extremely popular destination for families with children as well as preschool and leisure groups. During the summer season, there is a water playground that children appreciate very much.

On the grassy areas you can sit down under the many impressive tree crowns. The tallest tree in the park is a black poplar, which is also one of the tallest in Sweden. The park has 11 trees that are classified as perpetual trees. These are particularly old and large trees that must not be felled. The evergreen trees in the park are: Scots oak, horse chestnut, hornbeam, blood beech, black poplar and lime.
