Description
There are traces of a very large gravel pit on the northern shore of Lake Fallingeberg. In 1918, a branch line was laid from Birkekärr station to the newly opened gravel pit. A distance of 2.7 km. Gravel was taken here for the railroad construction that took place in the eastern part of the county. In the beginning, a steam-powered excavator was used to load the gravel onto the railroad cars. The use of the track was discontinued in 1958 and the gravel was last transported on a railroad-converted truck.
