Description

The trail starts in Hällefors and moves out of the community and into the deciduous forest. During the first stage, the trail passes industrial remains, old crofts, a homestead and other memories from a time when forestry and mining were the main occupations in Bergslagen. Throughout the trail you can see traces of coal bunkers, mines, crofts and old dwellings. At Sundsudden, which juts out into Lake Norr-älgen, is our shelter and outhouse. From Hurtigtorpet it is about 9.5 kilometers there.

You can get to Hällefors by train or bus. At the start of Stage 1 at Hurtigtorpet's exercise facility, there is at certain times the possibility of showers and saunas. The entire first stage of the Post Trail follows the Silver Trail, which turns off just south of Sävsjön.

Hurtigtorpet

Hurtigtorpet is a crofting place dating back to the 1600s.

Hällefors homestead

After 700 meters the Post Trail passes the homestead. The croft was previously called Snicker Pers. The loft in the area has been moved here from Hurtigtorpet.

Bergslagernas railway

After 2.5 km, the trail passes Bergslagernas järnväg, built in 1877. The railroad is still in operation. The trail also passes the abandoned and demolished Hällefors-Norrälgens railway, built in 1860. Here, transports went from the smelter in Sävenfors via barge transport on Norrälgen, before the railway was built all the way to Sävenfors.

Sävenfors

Sävenfors has been a large industrial town. Among other things, there was a cutting and rolling mill (1740-1840s), a steel hammer for tanning, a steel furnace with a rake hammer (1777-1785), four cutter hammers, a saw with three frames and an edger, a wood grinding mill and a smelter (1881-1926).
