Description

At the outlet of the Rällsälven river from Ljusnarn, the ore resources combined with water power created a center for mining in the area. Unlike the other mining towns in the New Kopparberg mining area, the focus here was not on the copper deposits, but on the rich iron ore deposits.

As early as 1676, a privilege was obtained for an iron forge at Stjärnfors, which then developed into a large mill for further processing the iron from the area's smelters, including Bessemer works.

In 1905, however, the business was closed down, but the large drop is still utilized, on the same site as the last ironworks, by a power plant, which has meant that dams and canals have been maintained. The mill manor is also preserved, while the farmland is largely used as a golf course.
