Description

Stor-Räbben's nature trail offers a wonderful exploration in a unique archipelago environment. The trail first leads you up to the arch and shingle fields on the top of the island where you encounter beautiful nature and cultural traces from the past. Via ancient settlements and magical labyrinths, you then reach the sea with the open horizon, Nummerhällan and beautiful cliffs. The old goat path leads you back and on to Svarthällan's fishing village, dunes and natural baths.

At the marked sites with natural and cultural attractions, there are numbered posts that refer to sections in the folder where you can read about how the forces of nature created Stor-Räbben and how the old seal hunters and fishermen left traces behind that we can still see today.

On the island there is a fully equipped overnight cabin that you can rent during the summer.

Facts

Stor Räbben is a nature reserve dominated by the four large islands of Mellerstön, Lill-Räbben, Svarthällan and Stor-Räbben, all of which are connected by very large shallow areas. Stor-Räbben and Svarthällan are the most visited islands in the reserve and there are some facilities for outdoor recreation. The islands have a beautiful, barren and distinctive nature reminiscent of the bare mountains.

Stor- and Lill-Räbben have a varied and species-rich flora and a rich bird life. They also have great geological values and an interesting cultural history. Stor-Räbben, with its 18 meters above sea level, is one of the highest islands in the Piteå archipelago and thus probably has the archipelago's oldest history. Stor-Räbben is unprotected from the forces of the sea and has plenty of reef-polished rocks and shingle fields from which finer material has been washed out to form powerful sandy areas.

Communications

The entrance to Stor Räbben is a navigable channel during the summer. There is a guest jetty and some periods offer tour boat traffic and boat taxis.

Directions

The nature reserve is located about 18 kilometers southeast of Piteå.
