Description

Five kilometers east of Kåbdalis lies Snipalandet, where primeval spruce forest dominates, with elements of mixed coniferous forest. Here, the lichen is so abundant that it nearly covers the spruces in some areas, indicating a long forest continuity and low human impact. The multi-layered forest is naturally sparse, with only a few dense areas, due to minimal influence from past selective logging.

The area also shows signs of fire, with old stumps and fire scars in the pines dated to the mid-1700s. The three-toed woodpecker thrives here, and several red-listed species have been recorded, including the rose polypore, wrinkled skin fungus, and spruce polypore. Dead wood is abundant, benefiting biodiversity and creating habitats for many rare species.
