Description

Malmens väg is a historic road dating back to 1745, when iron ore was transported from the mines in Gällivare/Malmberget to Strömsund in Råneå, which lies on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia.

On April 1, 1995, Malmens väg was reopened by the King of Sweden and opened to the public to explore the historic trail from mountain to coast.

Today, the ancient road is used as a ski trail and snowmobile trail. Along Malmens väg there are both shelters and picnic huts with fireplaces indoors and prepared barbecue stands outdoors.

The trail also connects other trail systems where travelers can explore fishing lakes, viewpoints, resting huts run by local associations.
