Åberget

Åbergets Nature Reserve is located along the road between Arvidsjaur and Arjeplog and is a wilderness worth visiting. The reserve encompasses the forested slopes of the mountain and a large, untouched area of marshes around Storbäcken, which crosses the reserve. Here, you can find a unique mix of forest and water environments.

Historical fires have shaped the landscape, and on the steep southern slope, there is a fire-influenced pine forest with several hundred-year-old pines. This environment is home to rare wood fungi such as the lichen laterite and blotch fungus.

Storbäcken, which flows southward and empties into Byskeälven, has a rich biodiversity, including species like the freshwater pearl mussel and salmon. The marshes and swampy forest areas contribute to a high degree of naturalness, benefiting both fish and other aquatic animals.
