Description

Lake Gemla is one of two lakes where Växjö municipality is actively working to combat the invasive species seaweed. With comprehensive frames on the surface. Keep your distance from sea urchin populations during all paddling and boating. Read more under the Facts box here. Near Lake Gemla there are also stocks in Helige å both downstream and upstream all the way up to Skrubbaviken which is part of Kråkesjön. Lake Gemla still has plenty of open water that can be enjoyed from both land and water.

Activities And Facilities

Help us stop the spread of the aquatic plant seaweed - which has a great ability to adapt to different habitats, it spreads mainly vegetatively but also by seed. To prevent the plant from spreading further in marine environments, we all need to work together!

Do not drive a boat or paddle a canoe through or in close proximity to colonies of seaweed.
Don't fish in or near sea urchin colonies. Do not swim in the beds, it can be dangerous as the vegetation is very dense.
Do not allow the plant to spread to other lakes or water bodies. Do not move the plant and be careful when moving boats, canoes, fishing gear, etc. from a water with seaweed to other water areas. Clean carefully so that no plant parts from seaweed are moved.
If you have seaweed in your pond, it must not be moved to other water areas.

Contact the Kronoberg County Administrative Board if you want advice and help with controlling the plant. Please report any new occurrences of sea wool to the County Administrative Board on 010-223 70 00.
