Description
Here, between a growing Bredvik and the planned Bäckaslöv district, you can cycle or walk across a newly opened lagoon crossing. There is a large fixed jetty and a bathing area with a sandy beach for a dip in Bergsnäsviken, which has a unique influx of fresh bathing water from Helgasjön. Along the crossing there are several footpaths and benches with fine views of the water mirror. On the west side is the new Räppevallen, which opened for ball games in the summer of 2022, and to the east a new lighted track awaits for safe exercise. On the east side is Bäckaslöv, which is an urban development project in Växjö city. This project is divided into two stages where Bäckaslövsesplanaden is already open to traffic. The lagoon crossing past Bergsnäsviken is an important link for a fast cycle path between Bredvik and the city center. Norra Bergundasjön is not swimmable but rich in both birds and fish. During April-May, flocks of hundreds of terns rest, the accumulation of which is unique in Sweden. The occasional common and black terns also visit the lake, as do large numbers of swallows and swifts. Great crested grebe, graylag goose and mute swan are among the resident birds. Cormorants, curlews, ospreys and sea eagles are attracted by the lake's good fishing opportunities. Welcome here for an enjoyable break that is included in Hop off Växjö around!

Facts
Earth Week in Växjö
The lagoon came into being thanks to the new pedestrian and cycle path being built as an embankment instead of a bridge. The lagoon receives clean water from Lake Helga and the northern bay, which previously had problems with heavy algae blooms and a dead bottom, is now flourishing with underwater life. Here you can enjoy swimming, several benches and walking paths. We have planted bluebells, daisies and meadowsweet, flowers that pollinators particularly like.
