Description
The tour goes southwest. Of course, you choose the direction yourself, but we recommend finishing along the sea. The first few kilometers are through deep forest and the gravel can therefore be a bit messy. Pretty soon you turn onto Vendoms village street. If you want to stop there, you can, for example, make a detour to Vedborms Alpacka and look at the animals. Here the road is lined with classic red cottages, farms and fine stone walls.
We roll on towards Löttorp where the coffee-hungry already have the opportunity to make a stop here. Fine pastries at Löttorp's patisserie, Kalk kitchen and bar has awesome burgers and also a beer for those who need extra liquid (during the summer), Rosas Handel offers locally produced charcuterie and delicacies.
On the other side of Löttorp, a more peculiar nature awaits. Now we are in the countryside for real and soon we pass Lammet & Grisen. A real dream for the meat lover, but which also offers at least as high-quality vegetarian options. Great food and open all summer. On this tour you then round, with some distance, Hornsjön, Öland's largest lake. On the west side of Hornsjön, in Horns kungsgård nature reserve, there is a mythical cape, namely Klosterholmen. It is a small headland that juts out into the lake. As the name suggests, the stone ruins found here have long been associated with some kind of monastic activity, but this is not true at all. Instead, it is a medieval farmhouse with a defensive function, a private castle quite simply. If you dare, you can take a small detour here, into the nature reserve. Otherwise, the road itself is magically beautiful. And you slowly wind your way down towards the water and the beautiful views of Kalmarsund.
And now some of Sweden's absolutely finest roads along the sea await. Soon you will pass Horns Udde, where quarrying has been going on since the Middle Ages. The "Ölands marble", the red limestone, has been in demand for the construction of castles and churches. Here is a perfect place to take a short break, before the tour turns inland again to finish through the forest.
