Description

Grönudde is as close to a primeval forest as you can get. Thick mats of moss spread out on the ground, and long strands of lichen hang from the tree branches. Old trees and fallen trunks also contribute to the image of a forest beyond the ordinary!

Sparsely cultivated

Over the years, farmers and crofters have taken out the odd tree from Grönudde's forest. The last time this happened was about 50 years ago. But they probably came here as a last resort, because you have to look for a more complicated place. The slope down to the lake is full of stones, boulders and fallen trunks. And between the rocks, the ground is wet and marshy.

Changeable forest

In Grönudde's forest, you can step over fallen tree trunks and cross between large, moss-covered boulders. That's what it's like to visit an old, primeval forest! It's a bit tricky at times, but it's easiest to make your way along the shore. When you catch your breath, look around and you will see the diversity that is the reason why the forest was protected. Ticks and lichens of different shapes and colors grow on the old trees. Study the green floor of the forest up close, how many different mosses will you find? Maybe you'll see a little jewel in the form of the tiny orchid knotweed?

Big and small under the surface

A lot of exciting things are hiding under the surface of Lake Ver. The small crustacean Mysis relicta, which has no Swedish name, actually belongs in colder latitudes. It is a glacial relict that was left here after the last ice age. If it's not careful, it can end up in the belly of a cormorant or a blackfish, some of the fish that live in the lake. The fish in turn have to watch out for the otter!
