Description
Bokhultet's beech forest is home to a number of unusual plants and animals. The forest is home to beech trees that were already sprouting in the 19th century. The old trees are crooked and twisted and contribute to the special character of the reserve.
Tree shapes
Bokhultet lives up to its name - beech is the dominant tree species here. The forest contains stately, straight-stemmed trees, typical of production forests. But there are also beech trees that are twisted and crooked, which contribute to the special character of the forest. So does the abundant presence of yew.
Exclusive bugs
The forest in Bokhultet has not been farmed for a very long time. There are therefore plenty of old and dead trees. This favors insects that live in decaying wood and in the hollows of the trees. Several exclusive wood-dwelling species have been found in the reserve that are only known from a few places in the country.
Home to many
If you look closely at the trunks of old trees, you can see different structures in varying colors. These are lichens, which grow like a crust directly on the bark. Even fallen, decaying trunks are used as homes by the forest's inhabitants. One example is the coral tag fungus - Småland's landscape fungus.
Valuable water
The Alsterån river, one of the county's most valuable watercourses, flows through the nature reserve. The flowing water is home to a wealth of wildlife, from insects to fish. The banks are lined with lush flora, where the stately fern safflower is one of the characteristic plants.
Visitor information
A hiking trail has already been set up in the reserve. The trail is part of Högsbyleden, which passes through the Allgunnen area. In the southern part of the reserve, the trail follows the public road, then turns off at the parking lot and continues northeast towards Sågholmen.

Turn south from road 34 in Långemåla, towards Böta Kvarn. The reserve is located just south of the settlement of Böta Kvarn along the Alsterån river. There is a parking lot and a hiking trail.
Regulations
In the nature reserve you are not allowed:
- Drive motorized vehicles off designated roads or trails.
- Ride a horse.
- camp.
- Make a fire.
- Climbing trees with nests.
- Being close to a bird of prey nest, lair or burrow.
- Hunting, killing, capturing or harming wild mammals, amphibians, reptiles or birds.
- Remove or damage eggs or nests.
- Damage or remove trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or brush that are growing or dead.
- Dig, pull up or pick plants or plant parts. You may pick berries and edible mushrooms.
- Bring a dog or other animal that is not on a leash.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make inscriptions.
- Damage or remove fixed natural objects or surface formations.
- Damage fixed ancient monuments (such as stone walls, cairns, etc.).
- Use the area for competitions or exercises.
After consultation with the County Administrative Board, you may:
