13. Ölhallen

From 1888, the premises were rented to Nässjö Bryggeriaktiebolag. The rent was SEK 3,000 per year. In a newspaper article from 1901, it was stated that the market halls and the beer hall, which had previously been veritable jams, had gradually become modest but pleasant serving rooms. The manager was highly praised for the order and neatness he kept in the beer hall.

The consumption of alcohol was enormous and the company commanders urged newly recruited conscripts not to have more than one drink (8-10 cl) with their food. In 1896, a temperance organization requested that the serving of beer in the "Nässjö Hall" and the market hall be limited or stopped altogether. After a sobriety association was formed among the conscripts, beer service was significantly restricted in 1904.

"Nässjöhallen" ceased to exist and the inn next to the barracks came into focus, where the new regulations did not apply. Large quantities of beer were also bought in Hultsfred to be smuggled into the area under the cover of darkness.
