Väderkvarnaberget Gripenberg

A hike up Väderkvarnaberget in Gripenberg provides many cool nature experiences. There are varied areas of mature coniferous forest interspersed with mighty deciduous forest with large elements of oak and birdberry. The very top of the mountain is relatively flat with parts of open meadowland. The slopes are in parts more of a fault with dramatic cliff jumps and large numbers of thrown out boulders. The area has a large number of dead and sometimes fallen trees that are allowed to remain. The crumbled soil suggests that wild boar thrive here and the bird life appears to be diverse and rich. There are no marked trails in the area today, but many animal trails and old tractor roads make it easier to get around some stretches. At the top is a farm with the remains of an old windmill. There are also some newly built radio masts.
