Mattarp has the highest spontaneous beech forest in the country. The beech forest was mentioned in writing as early as the 17th century and was not allowed to be cut down. At that time, the beech trees were food for pigs that grazed here during the summer. In the spring, wood anemones bloom in the beech forest.

The beech forest is easy to get around in even without paths as it is largely devoid of undergrowth. It is a great environment for recreation. In the spring, the new leaves of the beech turn an intense green color. In summer, the forest offers coolness on hot days and in the fall, the leaves of the ground glow in the red-tinted light of the low-lying sun.

By the road at the northern edge of the beech forest there is a parking lot for two or three cars and a little way into the forest there is a simple picnic area with a group of tables.
