Description

The Church Gravel Loop is a varied and nature-rich gravel loop starting and finishing at Isaberg, perfect for riders who want to combine great gravel cycling with Småland’s cultural history. The route runs mostly on high-quality gravel roads, mixed with short paved sections, and is almost entirely free from traffic.

The loop passes five churches: Öreryd, Valdshult, Stengårdshult, Åsenhöga, and Källeryd. Each church offers parking and access to water, making them excellent starting points and natural rest stops. The route can also be shortened at several points, making it flexible for different distances and riding ambitions.

Beyond the churches, the route features several noteworthy stops and short detours. In Öreryd, the loop follows the historic Skyttevärnsleden, which tells the story of the Norwegian refugee camp during World War II and the secret training of Norwegian soldiers. Other highlights along the way include Lidernas Mill on the climb toward Valdshult and Åsenhöga Old Churchyard, a quiet and atmospheric historical site just outside Åsenhöga.

Along the route, you’ll also ride through beautiful natural scenery and pass several lakes that are perfect for swimming, a picnic, or a longer break. Traffic is generally very low, with one exception in Öreryd, where the route crosses National Road 26 and extra caution is required.

Elevation gain: 875 m
