Description
Birds such as mountain plover, blue jay, guillemot and lapwing on Flatruet. Capercaillie and black grouse in the forests. Grouse on the mountain. Common tern at the waterfalls. Soaring golden eagles, owls and a variety of birds including narrow-billed godwit and lesser black-backed gull around Storsjön and Storsjö Bird Protection Area.
The inlet of Ljungan into Storsjön forms an extensive delta with sheltering bays and islets. The bays have dense stands of reeds and various species of sedge and rush. Sheltered locations combined with dense vegetation and good feeding opportunities are the main reason for the rich bird life. A large number of breeding or resting birds visit the area every year.
From three birdwatching towers you can see, among other things, ruffed grouse, cranes, swans, green-winged teal, red-legged kittiwake, curlew and mallard.
From April 15 to July 31, special regulations apply to the area under the Nature Conservation Act.
In addition to the bird towers, there are outhouses, tables with benches and a fireplace
