Description
These two burial mounds were probably built during the Late Iron Age (400-1050 AD). The pits in the center of the mounds are probably traces of looting excavations. The clear edge gutters around the mounds are a typical feature of Iron Age barrows in western Härjedalen. No archaeological investigation has been carried out. The dead person was usually burnt on a pyre together with personal belongings. These were often iron and horn tools, sometimes with weapons or jewelry and perhaps even pets. A burial mound of stone and earth was then built over the burnt-out pyre.
