Blue - easy trail

The trails in the different areas of Södra Årefjällen are divided into four levels: Green - very easy trail, Blue - easy trail, Red - medium trail, Black - difficult trail. The level of difficulty increases the more hilly and demanding the tour is. A green trail is for those who prefer a short and "gentle" ride in sheltered terrain. A black tour is either hilly or long and is suitable for experienced skiers.

End/Goal

The trail is a circular loop and starts and ends at the upper trailhead in Ottsjö.

Signage / trail marking

Follow red signs with trail number 163.

All winter trails in Ottsjö are marked with numbered red signs (white numbers on red sign).

The trail card is valid in all cross-country trails and touring trails in Trillevallen, Ottsjö and Edsåsdalen.

Ottsjö-Trillevallen Trail Management

From the trailhead at the upper trail, the trail starts flat but soon turns into two kilometers of gentle uphill. Here you first make your way along the edge of the bog and then alternately through spruce forests. When you reach the point where the trails meet, you can choose to continue the entire outer loop and ski 7km or turn right and continue back down towards the Olivehäll area and settle for 5km.

If your choice is to continue the longer distance, you continue uphill and soon the forest begins to thin out and you ski for a while in sparse mountain birch forest. the trail leads you around and soon the trail reconnects again to the end section and takes you down through the area of holiday cottages.

Then you get to choose - if you want to do the shorter route, turn right, down through the Olivehäll area. If you feel like the longer option. The trail has no long slopes but is slightly hilly and undulating all the way around.

From the nearest bus stop or train station

The nearest bus stop is in Ottsjö and from the bus station it is 1km to walk along the road to the trailhead. To get to Ottsjö by bus, choose Länstrafikens buss 562.

The nearest train station is Undersåkers station. Here you pass Länstrafikens bus 562 for further travel up or down from Ottsjö.

Turn off the E14 in Undersåker and follow the signs for Vålådalen/ Ottsjö. Follow Vålådalsvägen until you see signs for Ottsjö. Just before Ottsjö, take the exit road up towards Ottsjö Fjällby and you will find the trail center on the right just after you pass the mountain village.
