Description
Tjärby sand dune reserve consists of an old flying sand field of 60 hectares. We are three kilometers from the sea and this is where the sand comes from. Sand drifting probably started already during the Bronze Age. Until the end of the 19th century, the area was a treeless flowering sand heath. The heath was used for grazing and peat and seaweed were also taken from here. But farmers were increasingly concerned about flying sand covering roads and crops further east. They tried to stop the sand with fences and brushwood, but eventually had to resort to planting forests on the moors.
The running here is gentle and easy on small, fine paths. It is flat, except on the high ridges in the north of the area. The terrain gives you the perfect opportunity to get off the beaten track and try out some off-trail running. We are in a small, confined area so the risk of getting lost is small.
