Description

The nature reserve is located on a steep slope east of Gyltigesjön in Simlångsdalen. The area's natural values are mainly linked to old beech forest and leafy pastures. Several rare species have been found in the area.

Large parts of Sutarebo consist of old mixed pine and beech forest, with some birch, aspen, oak and spruce. The pine is tall and forms a roof over the deciduous forest. Much of the forest has long been untouched.

Cracked valleys cross the slope

Two large rift valleys cross the slope where the reserve is located. Down in the valleys, swamp forest grows. The rift valley in the northeast is a ravine with steep slopes and a primeval forest character. There is plenty of dead wood here in the form of stumps, dry brushwood and flames of several tree species.

The valley to the south is slightly larger and the swamp forest is lush with plenty of alders. High humidity, spring action and moving groundwater have given rise to a rich and valuable flora. The rare species of woodruff, goldenrod and dwarf hemlock are found here. Several unusual mosses and lichens have also been found in the area, including downy moss and lungwort.

The area was previously a

In the west, where the forest turns into farmland, older wide-crowned oaks grow together with hazel in a mosaic with overgrown meadow slopes and small meadows. The area was the property of the farms that were previously located here. Records from 1697 indicate that three farms were clustered along the old lane. The lane, which can still be seen, runs up the slope towards the outfield to the east, which was a common pasture for Breared parish. A large part of the reserve lies on the old outfield.

Camping is permitted for one night in accordance with the right of public access.
